What we collect

When you use the contact form

Your name, email address, the topic you select, and your message. This is sent to us by email and is used only to reply to you and, where relevant, to correct the site. It is not added to a marketing list, because we do not have one.

The form also records the moment the page loaded and your IP address, both used solely for spam prevention — bots submit forms in milliseconds and from repeat addresses, and this is how we filter them without a captcha that tracks you across the web.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people read and which links they click. This collects usage data including pages visited, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type, and referring site. We use it in aggregate to decide what to write next.

We also record an event when a reader clicks an affiliate link, containing the retailer, the product identifier, the destination and the page it was clicked from. This is how we know which pages are useful; it contains nothing that identifies you.

Google’s handling of that data is governed by its own privacy policy. You can opt out with Google’s browser add-on, or by blocking analytics scripts — the site works normally either way.

Affiliate links

When you click a buy link you are taken to Amazon via a redirect on our domain. Amazon may set cookies to attribute a purchase to us. That is governed by Amazon’s privacy notice, not ours, and we never see your order, your payment details, or your identity — only an aggregate commission report. See our affiliate disclosure.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Vercel, which processes standard server request data — IP address, request time, user agent — for delivery and security. That is inherent to serving a web page.

What we do not collect

• We have no accounts, so there is nothing to sign up for and no password to store.
• We have no newsletter and no marketing list.
• We do not sell, rent or share personal data with anyone.
• We run no advertising network, retargeting pixel or third-party ad tracker.
• We take no payment, so we never see card or banking details.
• We do not knowingly collect anything from children under 13.

Cookies

We set no cookies of our own. Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish sessions and users, and Amazon sets cookies when you follow a link there. Blocking either in your browser does not affect anything you can read here.

How long we keep things

Contact form emails are kept as long as needed to deal with the message and any follow-up. Analytics data is retained per Google’s configured retention period. Spam-prevention data is held in memory only and is discarded within the hour.

Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict use of personal data we hold about you, and to object to it. In practice the only personal data we hold is the content of any email you have sent us.

International readers

This site is operated from the United States and targets a US audience. If you access it from elsewhere, any data described above may be processed in the United States.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of this page changes with it. There is no version of this site where that date is stamped automatically on every deploy.
